Biography:Valentina Rao is PhD candidate at Utrecht University, in collaboration with the GATE project module "Design Rules for Learning through Simulated Worlds"; she is working now on design strategies for persuasion in games for change. Since 2007 she has been writing on various aspects of play and playfulness in social networks. Co-founder of the tiny game and cross media company Factory Girl Games in 2006.

Game Research For Training and Entertainment The ambition of the GATE project is to develop an international competitive knowledge base with respect to game technology, to train the talent required to enhance the productivity and competitive edge of small and medium-sized creative industrial companies, and to make people aware of the possibilities of gaming in public sectors such as education, health, and safety. The project is a partnership between the Universities of Utrecht, Delft, Twente, Utrecht School of Arts, and the companies TNO, Thales, Waag Society.
