The CosmeticBusiness Programme: Topics in Tune With the Times

At the 2024 edition of CosmeticBusiness, more than 400 suppliers will be presenting their trailblazing ideas and sustainable innovations to the cosmetics industry. A new feature of the programme is that all talks will be given exclusively in the INNOVATION CORNER alongside the SPOTLIGHT novelty show and the area for cosmetics supply start-ups in Hall 4 at the MOC in Munich. Content at the conference includes industry trends such as upcycling, the latest developments on the issue of greenwashing and consumer behaviour in relation to sustainability. Experts will present new ingredients and sustainable packaging solutions as well as colour and material trends.

"As an integral part of the exhibition, the speakers on the stage will be inspiring visitors with their groundbreaking, practical topics and fresh ideas. In the INNOVATION CORNER, we have finally brought all the various formats together to provide visitors with valuable inspiration and answers on questions of product development and market strategy", explains Project Director Carmen Bender. From practical talks to Spotlight presentations and start-up speakers, the comprehensive programme offers numerous highlights.

Top Speakers at the Conference

A major feature of the first day at the trade show is a lecture by Alicia Lindner, CEO and co-owner of Annemarie Börlind. She will be offering insights into product development at Börlind with a detailed look at the question “How is a credible natural cosmetic product of tomorrow created?” Focusing on innovation, ethics and customer feedback, she will show how high-quality natural cosmetics are created. At Börlind, high priority is given to the search for new ingredients. The company's ingredient scouts work with a network of suppliers to search worldwide for new natural substances. These are then processed at their headquarters in the Black Forest in Germany using the company's very own deep spring water. Alicia Lindner will also talk about the history of the company, local ingredient sourcing and the use of cutting-edge technology.

Once again, trend expert and forecaster Niels Holger Wien will be speaking at the trade show. In his talk entitled "DO WE CARE? – Everything matters. How to feel part of it all.“, he will be taking a look at topics that reflect the current zeitgeist. "Anything goes" is out! – The postmodern age of excess is over. The complex interplay between our real and digital lives is changing our outlook on the world. Based on these observations, Niels Holger Wien's lecture will discuss how the current zeitgeist is inspiring the future of colours, materials and beauty.

On the second day of the trade show, Birgit Huber's talk, "What do German consumers think about the essentiality and sustainability of cosmetics?", will present findings from the latest study commissioned by the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (IKW). Consumers are increasingly thinking about sustainability in business, society and the environment. An IKW study examined the value of cosmetic products for consumers in everyday use and analysed the extent to which people are managing to change their habits. Most significantly, the study looked at how this affects the cosmetics industry.

In a talk entitled "Anti-Greenwashing Directives: Protecting consumers, claims and the environment.", Dr Mark Smith from NATRUE will speak about the challenges of greenwashing. He will show how third-party certifications and clear regulations can help to protect consumers from misleading claims and ensure the integrity of environmentally friendly products.

Innovative Start-Ups Present Pioneering Solutions

In the INNOVATION CORNER, start-ups will be providing fresh inspiration for creating the cosmetic products of the future. The start-ups Gaia Tech from Switzerland and Lignovations from Austria will be showing that upcycling is currently a major trend. At CosmeticBusiness, Gaia Tech will illustrate how agricultural sidestreams can be upcycled to generate valuable new ingredients for the cosmetics industry - and present its anti-ageing extract made from olive pomace.

Austrian company Lignovations is introducing its product LignoGuard, a biobased multi-purpose ingredient made from upcycled lignin. The biopolymer provides natural UV and antioxidant protection as well as improved emulsion stability. LignoGuard can be used to replace synthetic ingredients in a wide variety of applications, including skincare, sun protection, decorative cosmetics and anti-ageing products.

The SPOTLIGHT Novelty Show: Product Innovations in a Familiar Format
