fairpflichtet – Sustainability in the events industry
fairpflichtet, a German combination of the words ‘fair’ and ‘committed’, meaning “committed to fairness”, is the sustainability code for the German-speaking events industry. It helps companies to systematically embed sustainable practices into their organisation and events.
The code is based on the principle of personal responsibility and deliberately does not require external certification. Signatories undertake to actively implement sustainability, to continuously develop it further, and to communicate it transparently.
Guiding themes as a point of reference
Ten guiding themes form the framework for sustainable practices in the events industry. They provide practical guidance and support the holistic integration of sustainability.
By linking up with the global Sustainable Development Goals – in particular SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 12 (sustainable consumption and production) and SDG 13 (climate action) – fairpflichtet contributes to sustainable development in economic, social and environmental terms.
Transparency through the sustainability profile
The sustainability profile is a key component of fairpflichtet. It documents objectives, measures and progress, and makes the organisation’s commitment to sustainability transparent and comparable.
