CosmeticBusiness 2022: Trends and Innovations Dominate the Conference Programme

Focus on Trending Colours and Materials, Sustainability and Recycling

At CosmeticBusiness 2022, the conference programme and the trade show have a lot to offer for visitors. From 1 to 2 June, top-class speakers and exhibitors will be shedding light on current industry topics in lectures on professional subjects and trends. Exhibitors will present their product innovations as part of the SPOTLIGHT special show. Start-ups will be presenting innovative solutions for the cosmetics industry in the Innovation Corner in Hall 4.

Under the slogan "Turn Trends into Business", decision-makers from the cosmetics industry that work in development, procurement and product management departments can benefit throughout the two-day event from a wealth of inspirational ideas to help them develop new cosmetics products.

From Trend to Successful Cosmetic Product

The first day of the conference programme is dedicated to the topics of trends and marketing. Trend analyst and colour expert Niels Holger Wien will hold his CB IMPULSE lecture, which offers exclusive information on the current Zeitgeist as well as insights into the world of colours and materials for the 2023/2024 season. His forecast offers a valuable framework for designing the cosmetics products of the future. This will be followed by the international trend agency BEAUTYSTREAMS which will be translating current megatrends into recommendations on how to create contemporary cosmetics. Sales and marketing manager Sarah Frech will illustrate trends in optics, haptics and packaging concepts for different beauty categories, as well as giving a forecast on beauty trends for the target customer groups of tomorrow.

Sustainable Beauty Is Trending

Natural ingredients, new materials, efficient use of resources as well as recyclability are the common topics that unite many of the innovations being presented at the SPOTLIGHT special show and are prominent throughout the conference programme on the second day of CosmeticBusiness.

The programme will be opened by Roland Grandel from the German Federal Association of Industrial and Trading Companies for Medicines, Health Foods, Supplements and Cosmetics (BDIH). In his lecture, Grandel will be talking about the certification of natural and organic cosmetics according to international COSMOS standards. BDIH founded the label in 2017 together with four other certification organisations (Cosmebio, Ecocert, ICEA and the Soil Association) in order to create consistent international standards in the certification of natural and organic cosmetics. The chemist's lecture will also examine the criteria as they relate to cosmetics packaging.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging will be holding a lecture focusing on "Recyclingtechnologien für Kosmetikverpackungen aus Postconsumer-Abfällen" (Recycling Technologies for Cosmetics Packaging Made From Post-Consumer Waste). Tanja Fell is the team leader for process development and packaging recycling, and her talk will examine the use of recycled polymers in cosmetics packaging.

In their presentation entitled "Sustainability in Beauty Industry with a Special Focus on Ethical Labels", market research company Ecovia Intelligence will be showing examples of cosmetics companies that already operate sustainably, with a particular emphasis on ethical quality seals.

Afterwards, Dr Stephan Telschow from the Society for Innovative Market Research (GiM) will speak on the subject of "Hauptsache, kein Plastik! Nachhaltige Verpackung aus Sicht von Konsument:innen" (No Plastic Please! The Consumer View on Sustainable Packaging). In his lecture, he will analyse which criteria consumers use to define sustainability by presenting findings from market research, then providing recommendations for decision-makers in marketing and product management as well as manufacturers.

Update on Future Challenges in Cosmetics Law

On 2 June, consultancy company PfeifferConsulting will take visitors on a journey through the regulatory challenges of the coming years. In a 30-minute lecture called "Quo Vadis Kosmetik?", Viviane Handler-Kunze will be discussing topics such as omnibus regulation, microplastics and fragrances.

Additionally, experts from PfeifferConsulting will be available for professional discussions as part of the "Meet the Expert!“ format. On both days of the event, they will be giving start-ups in the Innovation Corner in Hall 4 an overview of the legal requirements that cosmetics manufacturers must comply with.

Exhibitors Present Their Innovations in the Special Show and in Lectures

Across three trade show halls at the MOC in Munich, around 300 exhibitors will be showcasing new solutions covering the entire value chain of the cosmetics industry, from ingredients and manufacturing to packaging. They will present their innovations at the SPOTLIGHT special show in Hall 4 as well as at events on the CosmeticBusiness 2022 conference programme.

Newcomers Showcase Their Innovations

For the first time, start-ups will be presenting themselves at CosmeticBusiness with booths and at lectures in the Innovation Corner. Start-ups include or example Recyda from Freiburg with a tool to evaluate recyclability, and rezemo from Weiblingen with sustainable refill systems. Furthermore, MyMicrobiome will be presenting its "Microbiome-friendly" label. Newcomers present their new solutions on both days of the event in 30-minute talks.

Details of the conference programme and the individual lectures can be found on the CosmeticBusiness website from the middle of April.

It is possible to take part in events on the conference programme with just a CosmeticBusiness ticket.
